Big Ideas for Small Lots

BIG IDEAS FOR SMALL LOTS, HARLEM, NY

Architect: Alex Shkreli, RA, PACS Architecture

The main façade design began with the study of massing and proportion. Designing a six-story building on a street predominantly defined by four-story structures is always a challenge. Our façade aligns with the existing buildings at the adjacent lots, but also features a four-story bay that is gently articulated as a nod to the rhythm and scale of the neighboring townhomes. We were conscious that our building is taller than its neighbors so we designed a façade that is quiet, with clean lines and low contrast. The goal was not to imitate or copy the neighboring buildings, but to provide a modern interpretation of some of their most distinctive elements.
